Imperator Titan

This is an Imperator Titan from the old GW Epic 40K game. I always thought the big gun on the tallest tower looked goofy and impractical, so I replaced it with a Space Marine backpack decoration. The base, by the way, is a compact disc covered in a layer of cork.

Black and white and red all over

This is Wyrd Miniature's Pandora. I've always seen other painters' attempts at monochromatic paint schemes and wanted to give it a try. She is painted entirely in mixes of Reaper's True Black and Leather White (with a little pure white mixed in for the final skin highlight).  I was inspired by the Spanish artist Nekro, who specializes in mixing black and white images of his subjects with splashes of color. As if I didn't have enough references, the ankh on her coat is a nod toward Neil Gaiman's Death.

Watashi wa yorudesu

That's Japanese for "I am the night," what our friend here says as he strikes fear in the hearts of criminals across feudal Japan. This is Anima Tactics' Shinobi reimagined as Batman, complete with ears I made from tiny bits of paper and a batarang I carved from a piece of sprue.

Now I guess I have to find and paint one of those kabuki-masked Japanese demons as the Joker.

Rackham Gwernydd

My third lady in a row. Gwernydd is a Drune priestess from the Rackham game universe who tells the future through animal entrails. That makes her a haruspex (this has been your SAT pro tip for the day). She's tiny, which makes it hard sometimes to tell what you're even painting. And yes, the unlucky yellow cat hanging on her belt is modeled after my cat Seamus, who was giving me a headache that day.

Dark Age Warwind

Tried a different color scheme from the official Warwind, partly inspired by the Agents of SHIELD in House of M. The base was from a group of flyer bases I've had for awhile.

Seoni

I played around for awhile on whether to paint Seoni "canon" or come up with my own color scheme. I sometimes suck at color schemes and I have Wayne Reynolds' book (he painted to original illustration of her), so I went with canon.

The SEC Marines Project (West Division)

The SEC Marines Project (East Division)

I went to the University of Georgia, which plays in the NCAA's Southeastern Conference, or SEC. Years ago, I wanted to paint a Space Marine representing Georgia's colors and "G" symbol. My wife, who went to fellow SEC school Florida, also wanted a Marine of her team. Then it hit me, why not do the entire conference, put them on a single base and have something to put by the TV come football season? I finished them several years ago but had to go back and revisit the project when the SEC added two teams a couple years ago. So, here's the first of two looks at my SEC Marines, featuring the teams of the Eastern Conference:

Inquisitor ... Grimjack?

I did a kitbash figure a few years ago, envisioning a 40K Inquisitor. But it really was just an excuse to build my own version of Grimjack, a sci-fi/fantasy bounty hunter from the 1980s comic book of the same name. Not up to speed? Try here.

Anywho, the figure main body was an Adeptus Arbites leader with the head from a Space Wolf scout. The biggest challenge, aside from removing the old head, was removing the figure's right arm, which was cradling a shotgun. I then built a new arm out of greenstuff and an old Space Marine shoulder pad and added the Howling Banshee power sword. To hide the join of the new head, I sculpted a scarf. Not my best work as it still looks like a tongue. Live and learn. I used Rhino spare parts for the base.
