Couple of Big Guys
These were both experiments in different skin colors. The first is an ettin with the "standard" Trollkin blue skin and red hair. I painted a Trollkin army on commission last year and really liked how it looked and wanted to use it on something of my own.
The second is an efreeti. Many folks paint these fiery monsters with red or black skin. I saw an interesting orangey-yellow tone used on a devilish figure on Reaper's website and tried something similar. The shiny obsidian blade is accomplished from gloss sealer. I rarely seal my non-commissioned miniatures as they live mostly in display cabinets.

Let there be light
I did an experiment in object source lighting (OSL) a while back as part of a contest at my local hobby shop (everyone had to paint their version of Reaper's Prof. LT Froschmeister. I actually did some modeling by taking pictures of the primed figure under a Christmas light. He's standing on a piece of a GW Great Gargant that was serving time in my bits box. I figured a mad scientist needs a proper platform for his latest experiment.

Wonder Woman conversion
So I got this Britta, War Maiden figure by Reaper for free years ago and it sat in my bits box for some time. The base figure lacks character, quite honestly. Then, one day, I thought her headpiece looked a lot like Wonder Woman's tiara and we were off to the races. I removed the spear, bent her arm down and built a lasso out of wire (an initial attempt out of green stuff looked like she was carrying intestines). Goes to show that any figure can work if you think hard enough.

Snow Golem
I actually did this conversion/paint job several years ago for a Reaper Miniatures winter-themed contest (which I believe I won in a tie). He's based on a clay golem body, to which I added the top hat from a leprechaun figure, a green stuff carrot nose and a broom made of green stuff and plastic sprue. It also represents the failure of a long-term experiment of using baking soda and glue as a snow simulation. Yes, his base is supposed to be white snow. Instead he looks like he's on the beach. Will need to fix that one day. Anywho, I was always happy with how he came out and he's served as a mascot for my hobby for some time.
Inquisition Stormtrooper
Here's my latest work, an older GW Imperial stormtrooper painted up as part of an Inquisitor's retinue. I think after painting so much fantasy-related stuff, I was itching to paint somebody with a gun.

The Beginning
Hello. This is a second attempt at a blog featuring my miniature painting hobby. The first one lasted all of two posts, so the bar for success this time is quite low. My blog will include photos of my latest completed figures, past miniatures of note, and, once I get the hang of it, possibly tutorials and works-in-progress. This blog is partly an expression of my own vanity, but it is also an attempt to share and inspire others toward greater achievement in their own painting, just as online figure blogs have been a constant source of encouragement and inspiration in mine. Enjoy.
